Embracing the Great Unknown

You may have noticed some new faces around the office in the past year.  Besides our permanent team, we have had to adapt to the changing needs of our staff and our patients, and this has meant welcoming the occasional temporary staff member to alleviate the stress of balancing labour shortage with maintaining a forward momentum in our demanding schedule.

In the past, bringing in an unvetted staff member for the day was virtually unthinkable for me as a person who needed ultimate control.  However, the Covid pandemic brought to light the realities of a shrinking female workforce, which comprises almost 100% of the support system in a dental setting.  When the demand for help is high, one cannot afford to be picky, especially at the expense of delaying patient appointments when the backlog is already months long.

It took much courage on my part to finally cast my net in the sea of temporary staff.   As much as it’s been a learning process for me to adapt to frequent onboarding of new hires, it’s also gotten easier once I realize that even in this gig economy, we are all striving for the same goal.

Please do speak up if you have any feedback, either positive or negative, with respect to the service you are receiving here.  We welcome the opportunity to better ourselves through experience, but we always appreciate the occasional pat on the back!
